About
A Love Letter: The Story of Sourdough Mikate
Dearest bread lover,
As you read this, I am most likely in my kitchen, hands deep in dough, kneading not just flour and water but dreams, memories, and generations of tradition. I'm Hannah, a mother, wife, and the passionate baker behind Sourdough Mikate, based in between Abbey Wood and Bexleyheath, London.
In every loaf, I bake a piece of my heart and my heritage. "Mikate," the Swahili plural for bread, pays homage to my great-grandmother, who also sold bread. As a proud woman of mixed descent, I carry forward the legacy of my forebears.
Embark on this aromatic journey through my carefully curated selection of hand-crafted sourdough breads. Each loaf is a testament to the baker's art, lovingly fermented and baked to a golden embrace, just as my great-grandmother once did.
In the crackle of the crust, hear the whispers of my dreams – to dedicate my time to crafting wonderful bread and treats for you. In the soft, pillowy interior, feel the gentle touch of care that goes into each creation, a mother's love translated into food. The tangy notes of sourdough? That's the patience of time, the dance of wild yeast, and my dedication to bringing you nothing but the best, even as I balance my multiple roles in life.
My dream is to open my own bakery one day and become a household name within my community, where families gather around tables graced with my bread, much like they did around my great-grandmother's. With every bite, you're helping that dream come true, and for that, I'm eternally grateful.
Welcome to our bread romance, where tradition meets innovation and cultures blend in delicious harmony. Let's savour this journey together, one heavenly bite at a time.
Yours in baking,
Hannah
